Requirements

  • Be a new, incoming freshman student for Summer 2026.
  • Apply by April 1, 2026.

Scholarship Eligibility

  • Must be admitted to USU
  • Be a new, incoming freshman to USU for Summer 2026.
  • Be a resident of Tooele County.
  • Graduate from a Tooele County High School.
  • Commit to attend USU for at least 2 semesters after receiving the award.
  • Complete the FAFSA application and send the completed application to USU.

Criminal Justice Courtroom Reporting

  • CJ 1340: Criminal Investigations*
  • CJ 4350: Courtroom Communications
  • ENGL 2020: Professional Communications

This session will feature a one-week, hands-on learning experience. With the participation of local criminal justice professionals, the experiential learning session features a simulated criminal investigation where students will have the opportunity to apply the concepts learned in the course. This work will include:

  • Investigating a simulated crime scene and processing evidence from that crime scene (Introduction to Forensic Science)
  • Writing a police report detailing findings from that investigation (Professional Communication)
  • Testifying as a witness in a simulated court hearing regarding the investigation (Courtroom Communications)

This program fulfills half the credit requirements of a Forensic Testimony minor.

*CJ 1340 may also be counted toward completion of the Foundations of Criminal Justice Certificate.

  • DATA 3400: Data Visualization*
  • DATA 5480: Data Mining

Data is everywhere, whether you're looking at sports, social media, business, and science. In this seven-week experience, you’ll actively turn data into insight and insight into potential action. No matter if you're interested in marketing, health, finance, or engineering, understanding data can set you apart. You’ll learn how to work with real-world data, build confidence using Python, analytical techniques, and create visuals that tell powerful stories. By the end, you’ll have completed a portfolio-ready project on a topic you care about, showing how you can make data meaningful.

*DATA 3400 also counts toward General Education requirements.

Search for or select the USU Tooele Summer Program Scholarship from the list of scholarships.

An instructor override is required to register for the courses. We highly recommend meeting with your academic advisor to assist in navigating this process for either the Data or Criminal Justice track.

English 1010 will be offered in place of English 2020 for those needing that course this year. Please be sure to discuss this with your advisor when you meet to register.
