Rehabilitation Counseling Certificate: CertDepartment: Special Education and Rehabilitation Department
College: Emma Eccles Jones College of Education & Human Services
USU offers a post-graduate advanced certificate for the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification Category R, which is sometimes required by employers for those wishing to work as rehabilitation counselors. The certificate, which can be completed in one year, prepares students to sit for the CRC exam for national certification, which USU students pass at a 94% rate on the first attempt. This certificate and subsequent CRC certification allows professionals who have advanced degrees in areas other than rehabilitation counseling to become certified and move into a career as a vocational rehabilitation counselor.
Students pursing this certificate must already have a master's, specialist, or doctoral degree in a designated area (see "What It Takes" tab). Students complete eight courses for a total of 22 credits, all of which are completed online through USU's Regional Campuses and Distance Education program.
The Certificate is offered via distance education nationwide. Students participate in live classes at home through the internet.
The Emma Eccles Jones College of Education & Human Services may charge differential tuition for this program. Differential tuition is an added cost per credit for courses in the program. See the last page in the USU Tuition & Fee schedule for more information.
This certificate and subsequent CRC certification can allow professionals who have advanced degrees in areas other than rehabilitation counseling to become certified as vocational rehabilitation counselors. They are employed in a variety of settings, including:
- Public sector
- Community rehabilitation
- University disability resource centers
- Veteran’s Administration
