Cynthia White joins USU Uintah Basin

Utah State University Uintah Basin is expanding local support for education students and concurrent enrollment, naming Cynthia White as a program coordinator II.

White will coordinate activities and events supporting the paraprofessional certificate program in the School of Teacher Education and Leadership department within the Emma Eccles Jones College of Education and Human Services. She will also be supporting students enrolled in the program to pursue their associate degree or bachelor’s degree, in addition to contributing to the campuses’ concurrent enrollment program. White will be supervised by Jim LaMuth, who chaired the search committee.

“Cynthia’s skills, experience and educational background are what we are looking for to enhance and further engage our education students on campus,” LaMuth said. “We are excited to bring her passion for mentoring and supporting educators to our team.”

White joins USU after spending the last nine years as a French teacher and department head at Uintah High School. White has also been a Michigan Virtual University administrator and a co-director and lead instructor of NSA-funded GenCyber Camp. In all of these roles, White has taken the opportunity to mentor teachers in improving their craft.

White is currently a doctoral candidate, earning aPh.D. in Curriculum and Teaching from Northcentral University. She has earned a Master of Public Administration in Educational Leadership from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Arts in French and History from Eastern Michigan University. She has also studied at the University of Quebec and has taught in Taiwan. White is an avid runner who loves to hike, travel and be outdoors.

In 2021, USU Uintah Basin launched its education paraprofessional certificate of completion program, which White will oversee. This program is now available to students on all of USU’s Statewide Campuses. The program provides potential or current paraprofessionals in the schools with coursework specific to their roles. It is the only such program in the state of Utah. By learning the instructional skills, assessment techniques, safety procedures and interpersonal relationship skills they'll need to work successfully with the teachers they assist and the learners in their charge, paraprofessionals with this certificate will be prepared to join a teaching team as contributing members.

White will also be instrumental in coordinating concurrent enrollment classes through USU for secondary students in Daggett, Duchesne and Uintah counties. Concurrent Enrollment is available to secondary students who by enrolling and completing university-level classes will receive both high school and college credit.
