USU Uintah Basin Raises More Than $11,000 at Annual Golf Tournament
USU Uintah Basin
Utah State University (USU) Uintah Basin held its third annual Perfect Swing for Scholarships Golf Tournament on Wednesday, August 28, 2019. The event’s goal, held at Dinaland Golf Course in Vernal, Utah, was to raise money for scholarships to help the region’s workforce and leaders earn college degrees.
This year’s event raised $11,510 for the USU Advisory Board Community Scholarship. USU partnered with the Uintah County Economic Development Office and the Uintah County Commission to hold the tournament as part of the annual Uintah Basin Energy Summit. There were 18 teams in the 18-hole scramble, enjoying the sunny weather and USU’s Famous Aggie Ice Cream.
“We had a great day golfing and networking with important businesses and leaders in the Basin community,” said James Y. Taylor, associate vice president. “These organizations are making an investment in Uintah Basin’s future workforce. Outside of donations, they also provide internships and work opportunities for many of our students.”
The Strata Networks team were the reigning champions out of 70 participants. The event would not be possible without support from local governments, including Uintah County, Duchesne County, the Ute Indian Tribe and many local businesses, community members and energy companies. We are grateful to all of our sponsors for their contributions, with special thanks to our master and doctorate levels: Uintah Basin Impact Mitigation Special Service District, Esquire RV, Rocky Mountain Power, Strata Networks, Uintah Basin Healthcare and UBTech.
USU Uintah Basin has close to half a million dollars available annually to support students through scholarships. These scholarships are critical to providing local graduates the support to finish their degrees with the least amount of debt as possible. All proceeds from the event will go to support students.
