The Colorado Plateau Horseman’s Hall of Fame donated $10,000 to Utah State University (USU) Uintah Basin to create a scholarship for students who look to make significant contributions to the equine industry in Western Colorado and Eastern Utah.

“Thanks to this generous gift from the Colorado Plateau Horseman’s Hall of Fame, local students who qualify will be supported for the next five years,” said James Y. Taylor, associate vice president. “We appreciate the support and know that our students are equally as appreciative of the unique scholarship opportunities we have available here in the Uintah Basin thanks to local donors.”

To qualify for the Colorado Plateau Horsemen’s Hall of Fame Scholarship, applicants must be USU Uintah Basin undergraduates, enrolled in at least six credits per semester, maintain a 2.5 GPA, and complete an essay about living in a rural setting and perspectives on ranching, agriculture, and equine. The scholarship will be available to students for the next five years, with each selected applicant receiving $2,000.

According to Brian Crandall, the president of the Colorado Plateau Horseman’s Hall of Fame, the organization wanted to create a program to give back to the horse community. “What could be better than helping some kids with additional schooling? Horses are a tremendous developmental asset for so many kids. Horses teach so many skills utilized throughout our entire lives, including companion, dedication, and hard work.”

Members of the community are invited to attend The Colorado Plateau Horsemen’s Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Friday, September 20th. Doors open at 5:30 at Absolute Prestige Ranch 1351 Q Road, Loma, Colorado. Renowned clinician John Lyons and H.G. Bedwell, the first trainer to win the Triple Crown will be inducted.
