Biography
After a 10-year stint in administration, I returned full-time to the faculty and now actively serve on the MPH steering committee in the Kinesiology and Health Science Department. I am on the Publications Board for the American Public Health Association, and have recently been a board member of the Utah Public Health Association. I am actively engaged in community health efforts in the Moab area where I am based.
After attending a year at Snow College I completed a BA in East Asian Studies at Brigham Young University with a minor in Japanese (1982). I stayed on at BYU to earn an MA in International and Area Studies, and an MBA in Business Administration (1985). After completing my master’s degrees I took a break before returning to BYU to earn an EdD in Health Science with a focus on international and global health promotion (1990).
After completing my doctoral degree, I taught at East Carolina and North Carolina State Universities before landing at Utah State University in what is now the Kinesiology and Health Science Department. After nearly a decade at USU I joined the faculty at BYU in 2000 where I helped develop and teach in a new MPH program. After eight years at BYU I repented and came back to USU and joined the administrative team of USU's Regional Campus system where for nine years I served in various administrative roles, including Dean of USU Moab and the Southwest Region. For the past three years I have been actively involved with a team of colleagues in developing an MPH program at USU and am thrilled to be teaching full-time as a professor in this new program.
I am a member of the American Public Health Association, Society for Public Health Education, Global Health Council, Utah Public Health Association, Health Education Association of Utah, and NAFSA: Association of International Educators.
